Bank Center

The Bank Center was built on Szabadság square in downtown Budapest, opposite of the century-old palace of the Magyar Nemzeti Bank (The National Bank of Hungary), as the first herald of free trade and home to the international financial market, and was one of the greatest challenges in the years following the democratic transformation. The facade, shaped in the combination of marble, granite, glass and steel, was very fashionable and exclusive at the time; and has an individual though not stentorian style in the heterogeneous square. It has provided an example for the next constructions in the downtown.
